Croydon agrees on landlord licensing

We were very pleased to see that Croydon Council has agreed to introduce landlord licensing. This means that the currently unregulated private rented market will be subject to new controls to protect tenants from unscrupulous landlords.

Under the new system every landlord must have a licence and comply with certain standards. The council will have new powers to strip landlords who breach the conditions of the licence and prosecute landlords without a licence.

This will be a huge improvement on the current system whereby council enforcement teams can spend months prosecuting a criminal landlord.

Many thanks if you signed the petition!
